Our Office Team

Behind the scenes, our office staff ensure that everything runs smoothly. They provide invaluable support to both our clients and counsellors, enabling us to deliver a seamless service.

Our small-yet-mighty office team includes:

Becky Ireland
CEO
Sam Kay
Finance & Development Officer
Kemi Sanusi
Clinical Support Officer

Lisa Gagliani MBE – Interim CEO

“I am Interim CEO which means I’m here for a short while to help the charity through an important transition period, following a gap in leadership with the Founding Director due to ill health. My background is commercial and charitable where I’ve been CEO for a range of charities supporting young people, mental health and tackling social isolation. To relax, I like walking my dog and listening to live music, although not at the same time!”

Becky Ireland – CEO

I am a Charity Operations Manager of 20 years and 5 different charities, who came to the third sector accidentally - but knew I'd found home. I became CEO in April 2026 and my role is essentially leading the charity operationally day to day, and towards our strategic aims - some days that means building partnerships to develop new services, some days it’s unblocking toilets! My happy place is the beach, despite living as far away as is possible to be from one in the UK! A good bit of crime drama is a good substitute

Sam Kay – Finance & Development Officer

“I am the Finance and Development Officer. Previously working in the corporate world, with Counselling and Hypnotherapy training, I took a leap of faith, gave it all up and found the charity sector. My role is the day to day finance in the office, including managing client payments and paying the bills. Recently I have added to my role and am now involved in developing external relationships and community fundraising. I love to unwind with long (often muddy and wet!) walks with my best friend who is a labrador.”

Kemi Sanusi – Clinical Support Officer

“I am a psychologist by background, with over 16 years experience in psychology and mental health. As Clinical Support Officer, I am the first point of contact for clients and keep all administrative functions running smoothly (the heartbeat of Tilehouse!). My happy place is a good meal, nothing beats a dish that has been curated with love!”

Meg Taylor – Trustee & Chair Designate

Why did you want to become a trustee at Tilehouse Counselling?

Tilehouse Counselling’s values strongly align with my own. I believe deeply in accessible, compassionate counselling services and have seen first-hand the difference they make to individuals and communities. Having lived experience of anxiety and depression, I understand how important it is for people to feel heard, supported, and treated with dignity. Becoming a trustee felt like a meaningful way to give back and help ensure this vital support continues.

What skills do you bring to the board?

I bring compassionate, values-led leadership alongside strong governance and strategic experience. My background includes mentoring, facilitation, people leadership, and supporting organisations through change. I am passionate about ethical practice, psychological safety, and collaborative decision-making, ensuring people remain at the heart of everything we do.

How does your professional life equip you to support our mission?

I have over 20 years’ experience as a Property Management Surveyor, including senior roles as a Director and Line Manager, giving me a strong foundation in governance, risk management, strategic planning, and accountability. Alongside this, I am the founder of Next Step Mindfully, working in the mental health and wellbeing space. Together, my leadership experience and wellbeing practice enable me to support Tilehouse Counselling with both robust oversight and genuine compassion.

Christine Skeen – Treasurer

What made you want to become a trustee at tilehouse?

I became involved with Tilehouse Counselling in 1997, shortly after the service was established and called Women’s Health and Information Service. At that time, they needed someone to run their payroll and I saw this as an opportunity to volunteer in the local community. I believe that good mental health support should be accessible, compassionate and available to all in need, regardless of their financial position. I’ve seen first hand how mental health challenges can affect individuals, families and the wider community, and how life changing timely right support can be.

What skills do you want to bring to the board?

Being part of this organisation allows me to contribute my financial skills and experience. Throughout my career I have worked in roles that require accountability and collaboration.

How does your professional life equip you to support our mission?

I am particularly focused on ensuring that the charity remains sustainable and well governed. By providing my professional skills in a voluntary capacity, I aim to strengthen the charity’s impact and support its mission now and in the future. I’m passionate about helping create services that listen to people, respect their feelings and support them at whichever stage they’re at. I’m committed to supporting the charity’s mission, strengthening its impact and ensuring that it continues to provide high quality care for those who need it most.

Dr Judith Green – Clinical Trustee

What made you want to become a trustee at tilehouse?

I have seen for myself the life-changing impact of counselling for people navigating difficult times, and wanted to put the skills and experience I’ve gained throughout my career to good use. At Tilehouse I’m proud to support the charity’s mission of offering compassion and guidance to those who need it most.

What skills do you want to bring to the board?

In my role as Commercial Director, I have learned the importance of building strong partnerships and making sure resources are used in the best way possible to ensure a sustainable future.

How does your professional life equip you to support our mission?

I am excited to bring this experience to Tilehouse, helping the charity grow as a resilient organisation that can continue to support the community into the future.

Eleanor Graham

What made you want to become a trustee at tilehouse?

I grew up in Hitchin and I am a former user of Tilehouse’s counselling service. I know the value of Tilehouse to our community, and as a trustee I want to help it to thrive and grow.

What skills do you want to bring to the board?

In my professional life, I work at the Social Market Foundation think tank, helping to run a year-round programme of political events. I previously worked for a frontbench Labour MP, in opposition and then in Government.

How does your professional life equip you to support our mission?

I hope to bring to the trustee board an organised, compassionate and committed approach, informed by my experience as a young person living locally.

Melissa Flentjar

What made you want to become a trustee at Tilehouse?

I’ve seen how timely, affordable counselling can change someone’s direction. Tilehouse does practical, local work that matters and I wanted to put my finance and governance skills to use supporting that.

What skills do you want to bring to the board?

Supportive challenge, clear expectations and a focus on safe, well-run services. I’m good at turning strategy into a plan, setting clear measures and making sure resources are used where they have the most impact.

How does your professional life equip you to support our mission?

I’m a chartered accountant and previously an audit director in professional services. I’ve led teams through complex audits and change and I’m used to solving problems, weighing risk and implementing best practice. That experience helps me support Tilehouse to be sustainable, safe and focused on outcomes for the people we serve.

  • Evening Cover: For appointments that occur outside of standard working hours at times to suit our clients, these volunteers help us to reduce admin and staffing costs.

  • Local Advocacy: Engaging schools and local community groups to raise awareness of counselling and our services, educating local people on how it can help.

  • Maintenance: Keeping our centre welcoming and comfortable by tending to our buildings and grounds.

  • IT Support: Ensuring our systems run smoothly so we can maintain exceptional levels of service and efficiency.

  • Client Voice Work: Helping us gather feedback to ensure we’re consistently improving our services.
